The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is a series of federal laws specifying the annual budget and expenditures of the U.S. Department of Defense. Specifically, Section 889 of the NDAA prohibits government agencies, federal contractors, and critical infrastructure from using telecommunications and video surveillance equipment from specific international manufacturers.

On January 1st, 2026, this legislation expanded, officially banning non-NDAA compliant equipment from being imported into the USA entirely. This is a proactive step by lawmakers to ensure a higher standard of cybersecurity across the country.
